The Catholic Church selects particular passages for each season and week of the year for our reflection. The young adults meet on Monday night to reflect together on the Sunday gospel so that we can hear what God is saying to each of us and how we are called to authentically respond to God in our unique life situation. You are always welcome to join us!

  • Description: Jesus Christ the Super Hero
    Thursdays, August 17, 24 & 31
    12:10 - 12:50 p.m.
    lower level St. Clare auditorium

    Dr. Jim Papandrea M.Div., Ph.D
From ancient mythology to current popular culture, heroes dominate our stories. Why have people always gravitated toward stories about heroes who are both super-human and self-sacrificing? And here’s the million dollar question: Is the Gospel of Jesus Christ just another one of those hero myths? Or is Jesus a special kind of hero, unique among all of humanity and the true center of human history?

Dr. James Papandrea will be talking about Jesus Christ as a hero, and about how other popular heroes compare to Jesus. These three talks will explore issues that arise from the research for his newest forthcoming book, From Superman to Star Wars: Christ and Salvation in Science Fiction and Superhero Films.

Dr. Papandrea is an Associate Professor
in Church History at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. We are thrilled to
welcome him back to St. Peter's.

    Jesus Christ the Super Hero

Peter's.
