Letter from the Pastor

Dear Friend of St. Peter’s:

Peace and Everything Good!

I want to welcome you to our website and also to our parish. We have been welcoming people to St. Peter’s in this location since 1953, when the church opened for primarily the people who worked in the Loop and those who came downtown to do their shopping. Our location in the heart of the Loop also allowed us to welcome the many visitors who came to Chicago for vacation, for a convention, for a family wedding, and many other events.

To a great extent this part of our mission has not changed in these intervening years, but two additional groups have now been added: those who now live in the Loop and the thousands of college and graduate students who frequent the schools which now dot the Loop throughout the year.

Each weekday we offer seven Masses for the convenience of our congregations as well as five Masses on each weekend. We hear confessions continuously from 7:30-6:00 Monday through Friday and from noon until 4:30 P.M. on Saturday. During the week we have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 1:45-4:45. At midday during the week we have a variety of programs dealing with various topics of theological renewal, celebrations of topics proclaimed by the Vatican or by our Archdiocese, and book studies on spiritual and theological topics. Most of these are free of charge and offered for the edification and continuing education of those who attend. We have a wonderful Book and Gift Shop. Also a priest is available from 10:30-6:00 Monday through Friday for consultation and spiritual advice.

We are most pleased that you have chosen to visit our website. We now hope you will stop by and pay us a visit in person. If you can do so, we think you will experience what Franciscan hospitality is all about. We look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,

Rev. Kurt Hartrich, O.F.M.

Pastor
